BIO: Dr. Sana-Ara Ahmed MD FRCPC (pronounced: Sun’na Aa’ra Aah’med)
Dr. Sana-Ara Ahmed is a practicing clinical Anesthesiologist in Alberta and Ontario with specialist training in Interventional Chronic Pain and Cannabinoid Medicine. An avant-garde entrepreneur and visionary, Dr. Ahmed developed a chronic pain medical clinic that has been servicing patients both in Alberta & Ontario. She moved in 2016 from Toronto to Calgary with the goal of providing integrative and compassionate chronic pain management solutions to Calgary and the surrounding areas. She has a diverse practice that focuses on targeted pain control for diagnosis and incorporates medical cannabis in a dignified manner for her patients.
She is an MD graduate from the University of Saskatchewan in 2006 and received her designation in Anesthesiology and Medicine from the University of British Columbia in 2011. An astute clinical educator, she is also a certified instructor in Simulation Medicine after completing her Medical Education Fellowship from the University of Toronto in 2013.
Dr. Ahmed is a champion for patient self-care, preventative health management and a holistic approach to treating chronic pain. Her passion for medical cannabis as a chronic pain solution has established Dr. Ahmed as a specialized expert in prescribing medical cannabis across Canada. She is a medical educator for physicians and allied health professionals regarding medical cannabis prescribing algorithms in both Canada & the US. This summer, Dr. Ahmed is opening a new medical center in NW Calgary directed towards clinical research on new medical cannabis treatments, interventional ultrasound guided pain relief procedures and integrative medicine for all populations here in Southern Alberta.
